Care and Cleaning of Jewelry

The safest and easiest way to clean most jewelry is with a detergent bath:

  • Swish warm water and any mild liquid detergent.

  • Clean the jewelry with a soft cloth while it’s in the suds, then rinse it under warm running water.

  • Pat it dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.  Avoid using brushes, which can scratch metal, pearls and gemstones.

Never use harsh chemicals or high heat.

Keep all pearls, metals and gemstones away from ammonia, toothpaste, chlorine, lotions, cosmetics and perm solutions.

Do not apply cosmetics, hairspray or perfume while wearing pearls. Pearl strands should not become thoroughly wet or the silk thread will weaken. Clean strands of pearls with a damp cloth after each use.

Do not wear jewelry when working in the yard.  Not only will jewelry be subject to dirt, but if lost will be extremely hard to find. Do not wear jewelry in the bath / shower or to sleep.  Soap scum will build up on jewelry subject to frequent bathing.

Necklaces and earrings should be removed before bedtime to prevent harm to the wearer.
